How sync and offline use work

Crewdox is designed to work without an internet connection. Everything you need — your documents, forms, courses and records — is stored on your iPad after the initial sync, so you can keep working on board, in the field or anywhere without signal.

Submitting work

When you submit something, such as a form, attendance list or signature:

If you're online, it's sent to the server straight away.
If you're offline, it's saved on your iPad with the status Waiting for sync to server. A sync icon with a count appears at the top of the screen to show how many items are waiting. They are sent the next time you sync — tap the sync icon, or Sync now in the ☰ menu, once you're back online.

Until an item has been sent, it stays on your iPad only. It won't be visible to your organisation, and it will be lost if you log out. See Logging out for details.

Receiving updates

Sync also brings new information down to your iPad, such as new forms, course updates or documents added by your organisation. Sync regularly to make sure you have the latest. See Syncing manually.

Tips

A sync only transfers what's changed since last time, so it's usually quick.
If you've been offline for a while, sync as soon as you're back online to send any waiting items and pick up new information.
